The 7.62 mm National Infantry Rifle (MPT-76) was developed domestically to meet the requirements of the Turkish Armed Forces and security forces. Operating with a gas-piston, rotating-bolt locking mechanism in both semi-automatic and fully automatic modes, the MPT-76 successfully completed all endurance and qualification tests under international standards and entered into inventory. With the infrastructure and experience gained, the MPT-76H — a lighter variant of the MPT-76 — has been developed through improvement activities and is now being used by end-users as a main battle rifle.
